Mikel Arteta has dropped a hint that youngster Martin Odegaard is in contention to become the next captain of Arsenal.
The Gunners boss is set to name a new leader for his side after relieving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of his duties.
Gabon star Aubameyang has had the armband taken from him after reporting back to the club base and missing a Covid test appointment, after travelling to France to be with his mother.

Keen to make a strong stance, Arteta had dropped Aubameyang from the senior ranks and now started his search to appoint a new skipper.
Odegaard, 23, only officially signed for the club in the summer following a loan spell with Real Madrid, but already looks to be in the running.
Speaking during his Friday press conference ahead of Arsenal facing Leeds, Arteta told reporters: ‘He’s a very young player but already has a lot of experience at different clubs and international level.

‘I agree in the last few weeks he’s getting close to his best level and the ceiling for him I don’t know where it is because of talent and desire he has and how much he wants to improve.
‘We have a tremendous player.
‘He is a natural leader if you look for perfect professional he wouldn’t be very far from that’.
Odegaard does have experience when it comes to leading a side, after recently being made the captain of the Norway national side.
The playmaker features alongside Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland on the national stage, and now takes the armband for his country.
