The transfer window is closed, with Arsenal pulling off the blockbuster signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on deadline day.
The Gunners also signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille and Willian after his departure from Chelsea, with Dani Ceballos returning to the Emirates Stadium for a second loan spell from Real Madrid.
There are, however, only three months until the January transfer window opens and so speculation continues to swirl around a number of different targets and subjects who may or may not be on Arsenal ’s radar.
Here are three of today’s most noteworthy transfer stories concerning the Gunners.
Arsenal owner’s role in deadline day swoop for midfielder revealed
Arsenal pulled off the biggest move of deadline day, with Thomas Partey joining the club in a £45million transfer from Atletico Madrid, and now Stan Kroenke’s role in getting the deal done has been revealed.
According to the Independent, Arsenal owners KSE sanctioned the signing of the Ghanaian midfielder at the request of Mikel Arteta, who saw Thomas as the perfect addition to his squad this summer.
It’s claimed Kroenke has underwritten the transfer business Arsenal conducted over the summer transfer window and losses incurred due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
While clubs across the Premier League have spoken about tightening their belts due to the pandemic, a total of £1.27 billion was spent in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal weighed up a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho before paying the £45m release clause in Thomas Partey’s Atletico Madrid contract on deadline day.
On the Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Arsenal saw the Italian as an alternative to Thomas, but acknowledged the difficulty of prising him away from Chelsea.
The Blues see Jorginho as a key player this season and were not willing to let him go.
Mikel Arteta prevented Arsenal defender from being sold to Barcelona
Ainsley Maitland-Niles was linked with a departure from Arsenal throughout the summer, but Mikel Arteta played a key role in ensuring the defender wasn’t sold to Barcelona.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (as per Caught Offside), the Catalan club identified Maitland-Niles as a potential target as they looked for a new right-back.
In the end, Barcelona signed Dutch full-back Sergino Dest from Ajax to fill the position, but not before they enquired about Maitland-Niles who looked to be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium at the time.
It’s claimed, however, that Arteta blocked the sale of the 23-year-old, who he views as a key part of his plans for the future.
