Millwall star left with black eye and cut after high boot – but he played on

Millwall loan star Charlie Cresswell sported a brutal black eye and a gash on his forehead after a gruesome clash against Hull City.

But miraculously, the 20-year-old who is on loan to the Lions from Leeds, carried on playing throughout the rest of the match after the grisly clash, which took place when his face connected with the boot of Hull ace Oscar Estupinan.

The centre-forward was given his marching orders after the incident in the first half. But Cresswell mustered the strength to soldier on until the final whistle.

However, the Lions weren't able to garner inspiration from Cresswell and were only able to reach a 0-0 stalemate with the Tigers despite having an extra man on the pitch. Speaking of his heroics, Cresswell said under a picture showing his battle scars: "love this game."

But not everyone was feeling as optimistic as Cresswell after the match. Hull boss Liam Rosenior felt Estupinan didn't deserve to get sent off for the high challenge, and said: "The biggest thing for me to understand is why it was given, I just hope it’s not seen as dangerous or reckless play because he has tried to take the ball down, it’s just an unfortunate incident."

Meanwhile, Leeds boss Jesse Marsch will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Cresswell's tremendous fighting spirit as he soldiers on for the Lions. The Whites could do with some extra steel at the back as they look to improve their plight in the Premier League.

They sit in 12th place in the league after losing three games on the trot. Not even superfan and modelling sensation Ebanie Bridges was able to motivate the Whites to a win when she tried to rally them with a saucy post before they lost 2-0 to Leicester City in October.
