Mourinho hits out at international break in highly sarcastic social media post

Jose Mourinho has posted an Instagram message laden with sarcasm giving his thoughts on the recent international break.

The Premier League has been on pause again while friendlies and Nations League games have been taking place.

But the timing of the fixtures have been called under question by some given the current coronavirus pandemic.

And Tottenham have been dealt a blow with the news they will be without their right-back Matt Doherty for at least the next two weeks after he tested positive for Covid-19 while on duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Shortly after the news broke Mourinho posted a picture of himself working out along with the caption: "Amazing week of football. Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.

"Covid test results after matches been played, randomers running on the pitch while team sessions are taking place and much more.

"After another training session with only 6 players, it is now time to take care of myself."

The withering nature of the post suggests Mourinho is not at all pleased to be without Doherty, and it will be intriguing to see what he says about the situation ahead of his side's match against Manchester City this weekend.

Along with Doherty, his Irish teammate James McClean has also tested positive for coronavirus, and given they played England just four days ago there may be some worries that a number of Three Lions players may also be infected.

Spurs' game against City on Saturday is the first in what is a testing run of fixtures for Mourinho's men, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester all coming up before Christmas.

Serge Aurier looks the most likely to fill in for Doherty, who will have to self-isolate for at least two weeks and will therefore likely miss the game against Chelsea as well as a Europa League game against Ludogorets too.
