Never-seen-before details of Mo Salah’s Liverpool contract shared at Harvard
Inside details of Mohamed Salah's tense contract negotiations with Liverpool show how close he came to the exit door.
The 31-year-old, who has fired Liverpool to Champions League, Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup glory, committed his future to the club on a five-year deal in July of 2022. That announcement came as somewhat of a shock after his previous deal entered the final 12 months.
The Egypt international and the club had been far apart over terms until a breakthrough was made which led to him becoming the highest paid player in their history on around £400-per-week organised by agent Ramy Abbas Issa.

More than year later, a study into the negotiations at Harvard University shows private conversations and how Salah put his future in the hands of his advisor.
Salah was told by Issa back in June of 2022: "I am starting to fear that we may not be able to come to an agreement on a new contract, Mohamed – their latest offer is still very far from what we want."
Salah had said as part of his response: "I want to stay with Liverpool. But the club needs to show they want me as well."

Harvard Business School Professor Anita Elberse said on X: "New case alert! An examination of the unparalleled Mohamed Salah, his agent Ramy Abbas, and their contract negotiations with Liverpool FC last summer. Big thanks to Mohamed Salah and Ramy for offering a look behind the scenes."
A counteroffer to Liverpool led to the signing of the contract which runs for another three years, with Salah hitting another 30 goals in all competitions last season.

The current campaign has started in the same fashion with four goals from seven appearances – despite links to the Saudi Pro League.
Salah was the subject of an offer upwards of £215million at the end of the transfer window, but it wasn't what the player wanted. Issa said on social media: "If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC."
