Newcastle United reportedly aren’t holding out hope that Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s visit to St. James’ Park next Sunday. There is a question mark over the 25-year-old’s fitness after he withdrew from Gareth Southgate’s England squad this week.

Rashford was said to have picked up a knock in United’s 3-1 win against Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

After dropping out of Three Lions duty, he jetted off to New York for a vacation with his partner after months of relentless fixtures.

And United will pick up from where they left off after the international break, with two more trophies left to play for and a top-four spot to maintain.

There are concerns over whether Rashford will be available for the trip to Tyneside on April 2.

However, the Chronicle report that Newcastle expect to face a rested Rashford as they look to make a major statement in their hunt for Champions League football.

There were also uncertainties over whether the red-hot forward would be fit to start the Carabao Cup final in February.

He had limped in United’s Europa League win against Barcelona just three days before the Wembley date, pouring fuel onto the fire by indicating a knock on social media.

But he started and scored the second goal in a 2-0 win for the Red Devils to start Erik ten Hag’s reign with early silverware.

Newcastle are wary of the same happening in the Premier League, and therefore Eddie Howe will undoubtedly prepare his side to face one of Europe’s form forwards.

Rashford is enjoying the best season of his career, scoring 27 goals in 44 appearances for United.

The England international has also registered nine assists and is the focal point of Erik ten Hag’s attack.

But Newcastle will be out for revenge after their Wembley heartbreak, knowing a win would lift them above United in the table.

And if they can silence Rashford, it will go a long way in moving the Magpies one step closer to their Champions League dream.
