Newcastle United could flex their new financial muscles by signing Paris Saint-Germain star Mauro Icardi. The Argentinean striker has been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus as well as Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite finding himself playing second fiddle to the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and most recently, fellow international compatriot Lionel Messi; Icardi has still proven himself to be a prolific forward.
Since arriving into the French capital in 2019, the former Inter Milan striker has contributed 36 goals in 72 appearances for the Parisians.
However, reports from CalcioMercato claim Newcastle could be willing to justle themselves into the race for the experienced striker.
Supporters of the Magpies were jubilant after owner Mike Ashley finally sold the club for £305m to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) as well as a consortium of PIF, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports and Media.

It is understood by a plethora of financial analysts the St James’ Park side will be able to spend well over £200m without falling four of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, over the course of the next three years.
The club has gone from being a regular mid-table side to the richest football club in the world, and it would be a huge surprise if the club did not surge into the market.
And Icardi could be one of the first big stars to be unveiled by the new owners.
Newcastle’s entering into the transfer race for his signature could also be a huge blow for Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side reportedly had their eyes on the 28-year-old striker if current hitman Harry Kane departed the club in the summer.
While the North Londoners were able to retain the England captain, in spite of enormous interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, they have kept Icardi in their minds, in the event Kane tries to leave in the next summer window.
Juventus are also keeping tabs on Icardi as they try to replace the significant goalscoring void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bianconeri manager Massimiliano Allegri currently has the likes of Alvaro Morata, Kaio Jorge, and Moise Kean, but Ronaldo’s departure to Manchester United has seen the club struggle this season.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are currently in 19th position in the Premier League, having failed to record a single victory in their first seven matches of the season.
However, with their new financial dominance amid the Saudi based takeover, it is very unlikely they will be in and amongst the relegation dog-fight for much longer.
And with a reported £200m of legitimate, FFP-proof funds to spend over the next few years, the football world is bracing itself for a Manchester City-esque transformation.
A statement signing to mark a new exciting, and to other clubs, terrifying dawn will surely be on the horizon.
