Newcastle star Lascelles ‘attacked as gang threaten to shoot him and brother’
Football Digest: Liverpool pick up huge win at Newcastle
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles was involved in a late-night brawl that left one of his friends unconscious, according to reports. The incident occurred after the Magpies’ 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.
Lascelles was an unused substitute in the loss to the Sky Blues on August 19, with Julian Alvarez’s winner deciding the game. The Newcastle man then returned to Tyneside before being ‘attacked’ outside a nightclub and involved in a scuffle.
According to The Times, the incident occurred outside Chinawhite nightclub, with footage of the brawl subsequently shared on social media. Lascelles reportedly sustained damage to his ear, his 19-year-old brother was elbowed in the face and one of their friends was knocked to the ground.
The gang of attackers fled the scene when Lascelles’ friend was knocked out by a kick in the face. He reportedly lay unconscious for 10 minutes before being taken to hospital and kept under supervision for the next six hours.

Lascelles and his group were reportedly threatened with being shot when the trouble initially broke out. The 29-year-old was punched in the back of the head and had to duck to avoid a vodka bottle that had been launched in his direction, the report adds.
Authorities are investigating the incident, which has not left Lascelles with permanent damage, although no arrests have been made.
Northumbria police and Newcastle United have both been approached by Express Sport for comment.

Lascelles has been the captain at St James’ Park for the past seven years. Former Magpies boss Rafael Benitez handed him the armband at the age of just 23, when the club were down in the Championship.
Despite his prominence in the dressing room, Lascelles has steadily morphed into a bit-part player under Eddie Howe, who led Newcastle to Champions League qualification last season. Sven Botman and Fabian Schar remain the manager’s preferred centre-back pairing.
Lascelles has made more than 200 first-team appearances for the Tynesiders since moving from Nottingham Forest in 2014. The defender is also capped up to Under-21 level with England.
