Newcastle aren’t stopping with the signings of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood with reported plans to splash out more than £100million on at least two more deals before the end of the month. After Newcastle’s takeover in October, all eyes immediately turned to the January transfer window on what could happen.

Having immediately become the world’s richest football club, speculation was rife on what kind of money Newcastle would spend.

Their precarious position in the Premier League table put a stop to some hype over potential big-money deals for the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland among others.

Progress has been made under Eddie Howe with an impressive 1-1 draw against Manchester United last time out.

Trippier then made his debut for Newcastle in a humiliating 1-0 defeat to Cambridge United in the FA Cup.

Callum Wilson’s long-term injury has left Howe short of options at the top-end of the pitch and reports earlier this week stated there was a big push to sign a striker before the game against Watford.

That’s now been resolved with Newcastle agreeing to pay £25m to sign Wood from relegation rivals Burnley.

The 30-year-old is expected to slot straight into the starting line-up in place of Wilson for the time being.

But Newcastle’s January transfer window is unlikely to stop there with reports suggesting a further £105m could be spent on two players more targeted for the long-term aspirations of the club.

Trippier is a seasoned professional who has competed at the top of the game while Wood provides the much-needed experience to slot straight into Howe’s team.

But Newcastle have made it clear that they want to challenge towards the top of the table in the coming years with huge investment expected to come.

And the Daily Mail report a £25m deal for 19-year-old Hugo Ekitike is in the works.

The Reims striker has been touted as one of the most exciting prospects in French football and Newcastle clearly believe he can lead the charge under the club’s new owners.

And it is also reported that a whopping £80m could be used to sign RB Leipzig sensation Amadou Haidara.

Manchester United and a host of elite European clubs are said to be interested in the 23-year-old.

But Newcastle are seemingly ready to flex their superior financial muscle in an attempt to sway Haidara to the north east.

If both players follow Wood and Trippier to Tyneside, it will come as a huge signal of intent for Newcastle’s ambitions moving forward.

Haidara and Ekitike may be the first of many big signings at Newcastle with the club’s mega-rich owners keen to see Howe’s side climb further up the table.

The first criteria is to avoid a disastrous relegation, but the reported investment will certainly create the building blocks needed to begin their ascent up the league.
