Chelsea star N'Golo Kante would be keen on a move to Manchester United if he leaves the west London outfit.

The Frenchman has been linked with a shock move up north, as his future under Frank Lampard remains in the balance.

Kante has also often been linked with a return to France.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein doesn't think the midfielder will end up leaving Chelsea this summer.

But should a move materialise, Kante would prefer a stay in the Premier League due to the fact he is settled in England.

“I don’t think we should be getting too excited about the prospect of N’Golo Kante signing for Manchester United before the deadline. I don’t think he’ll be leaving Chelsea full stop," he told the Tifo Podcast.

“Before the window, it was relayed to me that if Kante was to depart Stamford Bridge, then Old Trafford might be a potential destination for him.

“Why? When a player of such quality – even at the age of 29 – becomes available, there are very few major clubs who wouldn’t at least consider him, especially in that crucial holding midfield role.

“Then, there’s his relationship with Paul Pogba, they’re close friends and won the World Cup together with France.

“It was explained that should Kante leave this summer, at this stage staying in the Premier League, where he’s very settled, would be his first option.

“However, there’s no evidence that he’s available. Frank Lampard has spoken glowingly of how important he is to his squad, and it’s my understanding that Roman Abramovich loves N’Golo Kante. When he loves a player, he doesn’t want to let them go.

“Kante, furthermore, isn’t the sort of player to rock the boat if he feels loved and part of the plans.

“I don’t see N’Golo Kante leaving Stamford Bridge, I don’t see him joining Manchester United and I don’t think they’ve even been in the market for that precise position in this transfer window.”

Kante's midfield partner Jorginho has also been linked with a move away this summer.

Either player could be moved on if Declan Rice joins in the coming days.
