Rewind six weeks and the latest Manchester United legend to put pen to paper with the club was not Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The hero of 1999 signed a three-year contract extension. It was reward for incremental, if inconsistent, improvement for making United serial semi-finalists and becoming their only manager to record back-to-back top-four finishes since his mentor Alex Ferguson.
