Ousmane Dembele is demanding a bonus to stay at Barcelona as his agent has begun talks over a new contract, according to reports in Spain.

Negotiations to tie 24-year-old Dembele down to a new deal seem to have dragged on for an eternity.

The France international, who is a free agent in the summer, looked set to leave in January after rejecting Barca’s contract proposals only to see a move to Paris St Germain fall through on deadline day.

Things have since kicked up a notch after finding a home on the right flank under Xavi and restoring his place in the first-team, but there is still plenty of work to be done, with the winger’s agent demanding a bonus in order to sign at reduced wages.

The winger has only made 14 LaLiga appearances this season, in which he has notched a superb total of 11 assists.

According to Mundo Deportivo, more talks are set to take place as the Catalan giants look to renew the contracts of not just Dembele, but Sergio Roberto, Gavi and Ronald Araujo this week.

Barca director Mateu Alemany and Moussa Sissoko, Dembele’s representative, spoke in Marrakesh earlier this month.

The meeting did not centre on financial figures, the purpose was more to build a platform that would allow negotiations to re-start, reduce past tensions and create a better atmosphere between the two parties.

The last contact had been in January after which Alemany declared Dembele would have to leave the club and would not play for them again after rejecting Barca’s contract offer.

The Catalan giants left him out of the team on January 20 and stated publicly that they wanted to move him on during the transfer window.

The Spanish giants have since made it clear to Dembele that there is interest in him remaining at the club, but with reduced wages.

His agent has reportedly assured that they can take a pay cut from his current £350,000-a-week wages, but insisted they will not just sign at any price.

Sissoko has also stated that Dembele is almost a free agent, and therefore would like a signing on bonus, something that the club does not contemplate paying.

Dembele’s recent form may force Barcelona’s hand to get the deal done as the likes of PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United and plenty of other big name clubs across Europe will be monitoring the situation.
