Mesut Ozil has posted a cryptic tweet following Arsenal's third straight league defeat as the Gunners dropped to the foot of the Premier League table.
The German World Cup winner departed the club in January after eight years in north London as he joined Fenerbahce on a free transfer.
However, the club still remains close to his heart as shown by his reaction to their 5-0 defeat away to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners now sit bottom of the table with zero points from three matches and are yet to score a goal, having conceded nine at the opposite end.
Ozil tweeted "Trust the process" following Arsenal's crushing defeat to City, with a broken heart and sad face emoji included as well.
The phrase has been used regularly by Arteta and the Arsenal supporters over the last 18 months as the Spaniard overhauls his squad.
Ozil and Arteta played together 40 times before Arteta's retirement and Ozil featured 12 times after he was appointed manager in December 2019, scoring once and providing one assist.
The former Real Madrid playmaker then departed the club in January after eight years at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 44 goals and adding 77 assists in 254 appearances for the club.
He also won four FA Cups during this period, before he completed his move to Turkey halfway through last season.
The pressure is now on Arteta after the club's shocking start to the season, with the humbling loss to Manchester City adding to a pair of 2-0 defeats to Brentford and Chelsea in the opening two weeks of the season.
He will hope they can get their first goals and points of the Premier League season after the international break as they host newly promoted Norwich City.
