Paddy Pimblett tells Gary Neville "I hated you" as Man Utd icon steps into cage

Paddy Pimblett has told Gary Neville “I hated you” to his face after the Manchester United legend stepped inside the octagon.

Paddy the Baddy has taken the UFC by storm since making his debut for the promotion in September 2021 with a knockout win over Luigi Vendramini. He has since gone on to win another Performance of the Night courtesy of another stunning victory in front of a packed out O2 Arena at UFC London.

But before devastating his opponents in MMA, the 27-year-old Liverpudlian’s anger was directed at former England and United right-back Neville. Being a diehard Reds fan, Pimblett made his feelings toward Neville brutally clear as the pundit stepped into the octagon for the latest edition of The Overlap.

Pimblett said: “Lad, I used to hate you. When you played for United, I used to hate you. I grew up watching you win absolutely everything.”

Neville appeared stunned as he took a step back and laughed: “Look at you, the eyes have gone haven’t they?!”

Paddy continued: “I used to just hate United in general. Until about a year ago I used to say Rooney wasn’t even good because I hated him that much.”

Despite the footballing rivalry, the pair spoke about their respective careers and passion for the sport. Neville was even shown several of Pimblett’s stunning moves first hand as fellow UFC fighter Molly McCann also joined them in the cage.

Pimblett later took to Twitter to give Neville a shout-out, saying: “It's crazy for me to say as a scouse Liverpool fan what a cool dude he is when I hated him for so many years, told him this too. I love a bit of Neville and Carra (Jamie Carragher) now a days they’re the best pundits on telly."

The fighter will return to the Octagon on July 23rd for another UFC London clash. He will take on American lightweight Jordan Leavitt at the O2 as he looks to extend his 10-1 record.
