‘Scott McTominay’s taking social distancing a bit too literally’: Paul Scholes slams Manchester United’s man of the moment for failing to close down Harvey Barnes for his goal… as fans pick out Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes for losing the ball

Paul Scholes slammed Scott McTominay for failing to close Harvey Barnes for Leicester’s first goal in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
Foxes winger Barnes cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s early opener for United with a left-footed strike from distance under minimal pressure on the edge of the penalty area.
Scholes accused McTominay of ‘taking social distancing too seriously’ and blamed the Scotland international for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s conceding in the first period.

The former Manchester United midfielder told BT Sport at half-time: ‘McTominay is taking social distancing a bit too literally! He has got to stop the shot, we have the ability Harvey Barnes has shown.
‘He has to get up and shut the shot down. David de Gea (Manchester United’s goalkeeper) is a bit unsighted so a little unfair to blame him.’
Manchester United fans, however, took to social media to blame Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes for their side conceding in the first-half.

United skipper Maguire slipped in the build-up to the goal while Fernandes was the player who gave away possession to Leicester in the visitors’ half to allow the home side to come forward and score.
One fan tweeted: ‘That was such an United own goal. Fernandes rubbish to lose possession, then rubbish defending from McTominay & Bailly. Very annoying
Another said: ‘Stupid clearance from Harry Maguire, and that was very costly. So much for an expensive defender #LEIMUN’

One person reiterated that Maguire was not producing the performances for a £80million player, saying: ‘Maguire flapping like bambi on ice again. 80 million.’
A different United fan added: ‘I dont think De Gea is to blame for that Leicester goal. Careless from Fernandes trying to meg a player around his own box and Mctominay should be closing the shot down quicker.’
United travelled to the Midlands club in third place, looking to boost their title hopes against the second-placed Foxes.
But Solskjaer’s side were left empty-handed as they had to settle with a 2-2 draw.
