Pedro Goncalves’ agent breaks silence on transfer situation amid Man Utd rumours
The agent of Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves has spoken out amid rumours he is being lined up for a move by Manchester United.
It is understood that the Red Devils have been keeping an eye on Goncalves, who continues to impress for Sporting.
The attacking-midfielder would follow the same route as Bruno Fernandes, who has been a huge success since joining the club in January.
Record, along with a number of other Portuguese outlet, explain that Sporting are refusing to open talks to sell Goncalves.
And the 22-year-old’s agent, Jorge Pires, has appeared to back up those claims, stating that a move is “out of the question”.
“At the moment there is nothing concrete and, even if there was, it wouldn’t be the best moment for Pedro Gonçalves and much less for Sporting,” Pires told TSF.
“There is no interest on our part in this transfer market, nor are Sporting interested in losing Pedro. Therefore, any business is out of the question.”
Goncalves’ contract still runs until 2025, meaning Sporting are in a strong position and are unlikely to be rushed into selling just yet.
It remains possible he’ll be viewed as one for the future, and won’t be targeted until later in his career.
Goncalves signed for Sporting in August 2020 after a brief spell in the Premier League.
He signed for Wolves in 2017, initially for the youth side, but only made one appearance for the senior team.
The youngster was then allowed to return to Portugal and sign for F.C Famalicao, where he flourished in the first team and earned himself a move to Sporting.
Since his move to the Estadio Jose Alvalade, he’s looked like a completely different player and has flourished in the middle of the park, scoring 11 times and assisting once in his debut season at Sporting.
