The three-time World Cup winner, who is recovering from major surgery, scored an incredible 757 career goals.

Among 300 items at an auction of football memorabilia is an 18-carat goldplated bronze cast of his foot, estimated to fetch up to £5,000. It includes his engraved signature and a “10”, the number on his Brazilian shirt.

Pele, 80, is due to leave intensive care soon following colon cancer surgery. His daughter Kely Nascimento said: “He is doing well. He is strong and stubborn and will get through this.”

  • The auction at the Mall Galleries in London will take place on September 22 to help The Pele Foundation, which aids refugee children.
