Pep Guardiola reveals Bernardo Silva injury blow after Man City beat Red Star

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Bernardo Silva will miss Manchester City’s clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday due to injury.

The Portugal international was forced off in the first half of City’s 3-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said: ‘He didn’t say anything, I didn’t speak with the doctors but apparently for the next games he will not be available to play.’

It remains unclear whether Silva will be available for City’s Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United next Wednesday.

City are already without Kevin De Bruyne, while Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic were unable to make the bench for City’s Champions League opener on Tuesday.

‘When we have five really, really important players injured, to sustain that for a long, long time will be difficult,’ Guardiola said.

‘But it is what it is. We cannot have, with the salaries, with the transfers, with the budget, 55 players, it would cause chaos for the club.

‘Sometimes it will happen, unfortunately that’s what it is.

‘A long time for Kevin, John [Stones] still didn’t play, it’s a little bit long, maybe Kova is coming back, Jack [Grealish] is maybe there in one week, 10 days.

‘But after we have to make the conditions or we are in trouble. It is what it is, I’m not going to say,’ oh, we have a lot of injuries’. With the players that we have we’ll go for it.’
