Celtic and Arsenal have called for a government probe concerning Ryan Christie and Kieran Tierney.

The key Scotland duo have been forced to isolate because they took part in a PlayStation session with Stuart Armstrong, who had tested postive for Covid-19 before their crunch European Championship play-off semi-final against Israel.

The pair have stated that they did not share a controller and followed social distancing protocols for the entire period, but that won’t stop them from missing crucial club fixtures.

It is understood that they have both now been sent away from the squad, and their clubs want answers.

The Scottish Sun have reported that the players want answers over their treatment, having been told that they need to quarantine.

A Celtic statement reads: "Following today’s news regarding Ryan Christie, he has reiterated his adherence to all relevant protocols while on International duty.

"In light of this, Celtic confirmed today that it aims to open dialogue with the Scottish Government and other authorities to fully understand the self-isolation procedures for those players who continue to deliver negative test results, as Ryan has."

Christie said: “I am so disappointed by the events of today and the potential effects on my country and club.

“As I’ve operated within these protocols for such a long time, I’m well aware of all the rules.

"Social-distancing from team-mates has become the norm and something I’ve observed.”

With Arsenal adding of their own player: “Our medical team have confirmed that Kieran was socially distant at all times from the player who tested positive and has broken no rules regarding Covid-19 protocols.

“We are currently seeking further advice and clarification of the details.”

And Tierney saying: “I’m so disappointed and frustrated. I have adhered to all regulations and made sure I was socially distancing from team-mates in the hotel. I’ve also tested negative.”
