Prem cult hero Wilfried Bony shocks fans by signing for new club in Bolivia

Premier League cult hero Wilfried Bony has shocked fans after he put pen-to-paper on a deal with Bolivian side Club Always Ready.

Local media are reporting that Bony will touch down in La Paz in the coming days. Andrés Costa, president of the club, wrote on his social media channels: "A surprise for our fans…

"World Cup player, more than 140 goals in the first European divisions, Champions League and Europa League, Champion of the Africa Cup of Nations. He played for Manchester City, Swansea, Sparta Prague and Vitesse among others."

Bony last played for Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, but he was released when his contract expired.

The Ivorian returned to Wales – where he had his most successful spell with Swansea – to train with Newport County in an attempt to keep his match fitness. Newport boss Graham Coughlan admitted he wouldn't turn down the chance to sign Bony.

He told the BBC: "You never say never in football and if Wilf was up for it and he wanted, we would certainly sit and talk to him. If he raised his fitness levels we could have that conversation, I am open to anything."
