Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms – meaning it's quite likely that she doesn't have much time to follow the latest football scores.

While younger members of her family have happily shared details of their allegiances, like Prince William with Aston Villa, the 95-year-old monarch has never detailed her fandom.

However, according to reports in 2009 there was once a 'slip' during an alleged conversation with staff working at Buckingham Palace.

And those reports claimed that she had revealed her love of West Ham.

Although we might never truly know where her support lies, there has been more than one debate over this in the past, with the late Prince Phillip even laughing off the claret and blue connection.

Her Majesty is said to have revealed her love for the club to staff after 'overhearing' a conversation about their famous rivalry with Millwall.

The Mirror quote a Windsor Castle source as saying: "The Queen has never wanted people to know who she supports because she wants to be seen to be neutral.

"But she gave up her secret after overhearing one of her staff members saying he was a Millwall fan and was talking to another member of staff about the derby between West Ham and their arch rivals.

"They were quite shocked – after all, she's not exactly your typical West Ham fan."

However, West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady once asked Prince Philip if the Queen supports the Hammers, and his immediate reaction wasn't exactly a positive one.

She told The Sun following his passing earlier this year: "I tried to break the tension by asking him if it was true The Queen was a West Ham supporter.

"He looked utterly baffled and said — shouted, actually — 'Why on earth would you think that?'"

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "The Queen, over her reign, has watched a number of football matches and often used to present the cup at the FA Cup Final.

"Prince William is now president of the FA and she has handed this job over to him.

"Which team she supports is not something we would know."
