Marcus Rashford didn’t tell England he would be jetting off to the United States before withdrawing from the squad, according to reports. The Manchester United star pulled out of matches against Italy and Ukraine due to injury. And he’s since decided to jet off to New York for a much-needed rest.
Rashford was frustrated back in the winter after being regularly left on the bench during England’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.
And he recently pulled out of the squad for matches against Italy and Ukraine, citing injury as an explanation.
Since then, Rashford has been snapped on his holidays in America with the forward soaking in the sights of New York.
And the Manchester Evening News say England weren’t informed the 25-year-old would be travelling abroad when he decided to withdraw from international duty.
England boss Gareth Southgate has hinted he’s frustrated by not having Rashford available as he looks to steer the Three Lions towards the 2024 European Championships.
Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players
“Well, the feeling was he was playing really well, but we haven’t often had him,” he said on Friday.
“So, in terms of a loss when you haven’t had him that often, then it’s different to being a loss. But without a doubt he was in good form. We were looking forward to seeing him.”
Rashford has travelled to America with girlfriend Lucia Loi.
The pair previously split in May 2021, according to reports, having previously been together for eight years.
But they reconciled in January last year and have since become engaged, with the pair uploading snaps confirming this onto social media.

Rashford isn’t the only United player currently due to be wed.
Diogo Dalot recently confirmed his engagement to Claudia Lopes, sparing no expense with his romantic proposal.
And it has emerged Mason Greenwood is hoping to marry his partner, too, with United yet to make a final decision over the striker’s future.
Meanwhile, regarding Rashford, Robin van Persie recently hailed the United star and said he’s a ‘man on a mission’.
“Yeah, you can see he’s having maybe the best form of his life,” the former striker told club media.

“The way he plays, he looks very fit. He looks very focused.
“He looks to have fun. He’s on a mission now. Everyone knew from an early age, because he broke through from a very early age, everyone knew how good of a player he was – and still is of course – but now you see that everything clicks, and that is partly down to him, but as well a coach, and, as well, your team-mates.
“If you look at the connection he has with Fernandes for example, that is something unique. You only have that connection with a few players throughout your career.
“And he has that now. He is like going from strength to strength.”
He added: “From a coach’s point of view, it looks really fun to work with a player like Rashford.
“But it goes both ways. I’m sure Rashford is really happy with Erik [ten Hag] as well.
“You can see he’s growing, he’s confident; with him, you know almost every game he plays, it doesn’t matter against who, that he will score a goal or be decisive in most matches.
“From a fan point of view, it is fun to watch as well, because this is the Rashford we would like to see every week, every three or four days, so he is bringing a lot of joy.”
