Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer are dwindling, with reports suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an enormous new contract offer. The 22-year-old is Real’s top transfer target, but the La Liga club are likely to struggle to secure his signature.

Strike sensation Mbappe has scored 78 goals in 80 La Liga games since joining PSG in 2017, and is widely regarded as the top young player in world football.

Real Madrid see the Frenchman as the perfect player to rejuvenate their side after missing out on the league title to neighbours Atletico Madrid last season.

And Mbappe’s link-up play with Real forward Karim Benzema for France at Euro 2020 has only strengthened club president Florentino Perez’s desire to make the signing.

But PSG are absolutely determined to keep hold of their star man, who is into the final two years of his contract in the French capital.

And the Ligue 1 giants are believed to be on the verge of offering Mbappe one of the most lucrative contracts in the history of the game.

“Real Madrid are not going to sign anyone this summer, I only had the hope of signing Mbappé and they have already seen that it is impossible,” Spanish transfer expert Jesus Gallego said, as reported in AS.

Rumours of a mega-contract are in keeping with previous noises from PSG, with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisting earlier this summer that the club will never sell Mbappe.

“I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris,” Al-Khelaifi said.

“We will never sell him and he will never leave on a free. Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris. Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today?

“All I can say is that things are going well, and I hope we can reach an agreement. This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital.”
