Real Madrid have denied claims they have held negotiations with PSG forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of his contract expiring next summer – calling the rumours ‘completely false’.
Mbappe will become a free agent at the end of the season as things stand and should he fail to agree new terms with the French side, there will be a host of elite clubs queuing up to secure one of the world’s best players for free.
The Frenchman endured a tense relationship with his club over the summer amid uncertainty over his future and at one point he was banished to play with the B-team. Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal even lodged a world record £257million, but the player opted against moving to the Middle East.
He has since resolved matters with PSG and returned to the first team – going on to score ten times in nine Ligue 1 starts, looking to brush off questions around his future.
But there have still been links to Real Madrid, who appear favourites to land his signature at the season’s end, in recent weeks.

Madrid surprised many by making a rare statement on transfer speculation, opting to deny the rumours and insisting Mbappe was still PSG’s player.
The club said: ‘Given the information recently issued and published by different media outlets, in which there is speculation about alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappe and our club, Real Madrid CF would like to state that this information is completely false and that no such negotiations have taken place. with a player who belongs to PSG.’
Madrid will still be one of the contenders to nab Mbappe next year if no extension with PSG is in the offing – and Liverpool have been one of the surprise names to have been mooted with a shock move for the forward too.
Speculation is swirling around Mbappe, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season
A report from L’Equipe this week claimed the Reds still believe than can make a swoop for Mbappe after a failed move for him before he joined PSG in 2017.
It adds they have never broken contact with the player’s entourage since that time.
Mbappe was not among the goals this weekend, but he did impress as he produced a fine dummy for Lee Kang-in’s strike to help the champions go top in a 3-0 win over Montpellier.
After Kang-in’s opener, Warren Zaire-Emery added a second after half time, before Vitinha supplied the third ten minutes later.
