Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos was spotted in a Liverpool boozer ahead of the Reds' Champions League tie with the La Liga giants.

Liverpool face Real in the competition's last 16 clash on Tuesday evening. And as kick-off edged closer, Los Blancos icon Carlos was seen having a drink with the travelling fans on Mathew Street before they headed into Anfield.

The former left-back sported a huge grin as he rubbed shoulders with Real fans who appeared to be in good spirits as they seemingly serenaded Carlos. And in another pic, Carlos, wearing a turtle neck smiled in the camera whilst drinking a pint, with a slew of other drinks on the table.

And Carlos' impromptu appearance in the pub on Matthew Street caused a stir amongst shocked fans on Twitter. One user declared: "Roberto Carlos is on Matthew Street." Then another added: "Mate of mine over for the game got this of him in Sgt Peppers."

A third fan mused: "This man spawns on the most random ass places in the world." Before a fourth fan praised Carlos for mingling with supporters, saying: "That’s what a football legend looks like, among the people… accepted by all and loved by all!"

Carlos, who won the Champions League three times with Real, will be hoping his former side emerge victorious against the Reds who they defeated in last season's final. But the former full-back has nothing but respect for Liverpool counterpart Trent Alexander-Arnold who's one of the only England players good enough to get into Brazil's side in his eyes.

It's poised to be a fiery clash between the European heavyweights and the stage has been set by Liverpool supporters who cheekily let off fireworks outside Real's hotel at 2am on Tuesday morning. But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is preparing for a tough tie after he admitted playing Carlo Ancelotti's side is the ultimate football test.
