Michael Owen was left red-faced after being introduced as "the father of Love Island's Gemma Owen" ahead of England's match against Germany.
The former Three Lions striker was on punditry duties for Channel 4, a day after his daughter made her first appearance on the ITV2 reality show.
At the start of their broadcast for the Nations League fixture, presenter Jules Breach said: "The father of Love Island’s Gemma Owen, Michael Owen here with us, a big night for the Owen’s last night, how are you feeling?"
Owen replied: "Jules, I came all the way to Germany to try and avoid all that back home, but it has been brought up straight away.
"But I am feeling alright thank you. This is taking my mind off it so don’t bring it back up."
Gemma, 19, has entered the Love Island villa, where scantily-clad singles look to find love while soaking up the sun rays on a Spanish island.
Aside from being Owen's offspring, she is an international dressage rider and has her own beachwear brand.
Football fans were quick to joke she sounds exactly like her dad as she appeared on the opening episode of the 2022 edition. Owen has often received criticism for his commentary skills.
One of his old tweets resurfaced while the first night of action unfolded.
He had tweeted after England lost 2-1 to Uruguay at 2014 World Cup: “Going to bed. Can't take the pain any longer.”
