Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand thinks the club were wrong to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for today’s Premier League match with Everton. And, speaking after the game, he expressed a belief the players were ‘disappointed’ judging by their reactions at full time. It was a difficult day at the office for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who missed out on the chance to go top of the table.
Manchester United went ahead against Everton when Anthony Martial struck, with the France international bagging his first goal of the season.
But the Toffees earned a draw through Andros Townsend, who celebrated by Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siuuu’ celebration.
For United, it was another missed chance.
After dropping points against Aston Villa last weekend, they failed to take all three this time around.
And BT Sport pundit Ferdinand, speaking after the contest at Old Trafford, believes the players were despondent at the full-time whistle.
“It’s brave, it was a big call to make five changes, three out of four in last games so it wasn’t coming into the game in a rich vein of form but in today’s game you seen people shuffling the pack and making five in the game,” he said.

“I think you see the reaction of players walking off disappointed with the result and it’s big points dropped.
“On the other hand they’re bringing in Cavani, Martial people that score goals big names, they should be able to get it done.
“I think the big thing is Cristiano has five in five he’s in a rich vein of form, would you see other people take out their top scorer out of a game.
“Is Harry Kane with five in five not playing for Spurs? Would Aguero when he was at City?
“He’s 36 so you’ve got to manage his load but if they had another game on Tuesday or Wednesday, I’d understand and be convinced it was the right decision.

“But for me the question mark is Cristiano’s going on international duty with Qatar and Luxembourg which games he could pick and choose in and rest up a bit. He’s not human.”
Jermaine Jenas also thinks United were wrong to leave Ronaldo out.
“Did you see him at the Euros? He starts every game for his country in shorter space of time, he’s playing football now because he’s looked after himself over time, his game’s changed, his game’s evolved you don’t run around like a crazy person,” he said.
“He picks his moments so he managed his body in game.
“For me today didn’t feel like that time of game to rest your star man it felt like a game to get done go into the international break top of the league and then if we can manage him in another way we’ll talk about it then.”
Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, was also unhappy.
”We should win this game. We should create more chances,” he said.
“We should not concede that kind of goal. It’s not the first time and we have to look at our mistakes and see what we can do.
“We don’t look at the league table at this moment but of course we should have more points. We drop points at home and we should not do that.
“These last two games at home was not good enough in the Premier League. If we want silverware at the end of the season we have to do much better.”
Everton boss Rafa Benitez, however, feels his side deserved their point.
“We played against a very good team,” he said.
“It’s not easy to get a result here and we did well. We concede a late goal that maybe we were not expecting but the reaction of the team in the second half was quite good.
“It’s a pity the last one because it’s offside but it could be even better but we are pleased with the way we played and the result at the end.
“We are doing well. We have some problems with injuries and still the team is working really hard and reacting really well.
“You can see the team spirit and the fans will appreciate that and the players will appreciate the support of the fans so you can see now we have a very good understanding.”
