Rio Ferdinand has begged Man Utd to secure Jadon Sancho transfer this summer

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has begged his former club to secure the signing of Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have only managed to bring in Donny van de Beek so far this summer ahead of their return to Premier League and Champions League action, leaving their supporters wanting more.

Although Borussia Dortmund seem willing to sell their star forward for a fee in the region of £108m, United have so far failed to match that asking price despite their obvious wealth.

Ferdinand has since made an emotional plea to his former club, begging them to sign the 20-year-old before the current transfer window closes on the later date of October 5.

While speaking on his Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “The kid’s got mad talent. I need him at Man United.

“Please, I’m begging.” Before adding: “Fingers crossed. I need it this summer.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said of the ongoing transfer talks back in August: "I can't comment on other team's players, I can't do that. You know that. I never do."

Several senior figures at Dortmund have insisted that Sancho will be staying at the club for at least one more Bundesliga season, and it was former skipper Sebastian Kehl’s turn earlier this month.

Kehl, the head of their licensed player division, said: ”Jadon Sancho will play at Borussia Dortmund this season.

"Otherwise, of course, we are watching the market but we are very well positioned."

After manager Lucien Favre had stated: "We need him, no question. Everyone was happy that he stayed.

"We don't need to talk long about its qualities – they are enormous.
