Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has held talks over a move to Boca Juniors in Argentina, though a deal has still to be finalised.

Boca are due to play Santos in the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday and hope to continue negotiations for Rojo this week.

United are still to receive a bid from Boca on Rojo, but initial talks have taken place.

Marcos Rojo has played 122 matches for Manchester United since joining the club in 2014

The 30-year-old centre back spent last season at Estudiantes alongside Javier Mascherano

The 30-year-old was on loan at Estudiantes last season and is open to returning to Argentina despite interest from Sheffield United and Newcastle.

However, terms have still to be agreed for the centre back, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 for £16m.

Rojo would be reunited with international team-mate and Boca Juniors captain Carlos Tevez

Rojo, who has been sidelined since October last year with a calf injury, has made 122 appearances for the Red Devils during an injury-ravaged six-and-a-half years at the club.

He did oversee some trophy success at Old Trafford though, helping Louis van Gaal win the FA Cup in 2016 before being part of the EFL Cup and Europa League-winning double side under Jose Mourinho.

A move to Boca would see Rojo reunited with former international team-mate Carlos Tevez, who infamously crossed the city divide after two years under Sir Alex Ferguson to join Manchester City in 2009.
