Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has offered an insight into Antonio Conte’s future amid reported interest from Tottenham. Conte has been strongly linked with a move to north London to succeed Jose Mourinho and take over at the club next season.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is conducting a search for Tottenham’s next manager having sacked Mourinho and his staff on April 19.

Mourinho has already secured employment for the 2021/22 season following his shock appointment as Roma boss on Tuesday.

Levy has installed former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason as interim manager until the end of the season while he looks for a permanent solution.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of contention before frontrunner Erik ten Hag signed a new contract with Ajax after winning the Eredivisie title.

Brighton boss Graham Potter is another name who has been linked with the role, while Fulham’s Scott Parker and Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo have also emerged in reports.

Former Chelsea boss Conte is another name in the frame and could be set to move on from Inter Milan, where he has just secured the Serie A title – the club’s 19th, but first since 2010.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Spurs have approached Conte and have gone as far as conducting transfer discussions with the 51-year-old in advance of a formal move for his services.

Conte is contracted to Inter for another year, but has hinted he could be open to a new challenge after two years with the club.

“I’ll be staying or leaving Inter? Now we enjoy the celebrations, then we’ll meet and decide,” Conte told Le Iene recently.

“We will choose the best destiny for Inter.”

Conte has an impressive CV, having already enjoyed success in the Premier League, as well as in Italy with Inter and Juventus.

The Inter boss led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge in 2016/17, before clinching the FA Cup the following year.

Despite winning the title, Inter are braced for budget cuts from Chinese owner Suning amid financial difficulties due in part to the coronavirus pandemic.

That consideration could be playing on Conte’s mind, but Inter striker Lukaku is convinced his manager will stay put in Milan.

“He too is really happy, he is well,” he told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“He has a team that follows him and is at his service, both in training and in matches. We have everything to start a new cycle.

“Playing for Inter, in Serie A, has always been a dream. Today I am with the coach who, for me, is the strongest.

“On the pitch, there are never any surprises, we are prepared for all situations.”

Having scored 21 goals in 33 league appearances this season, Lukaku himself has been linked with a transfer this summer, with Inter reportedly needing to raise funds in order to address their financial problems.

The 27-year-old is rumoured to be the subject of interest from his former club Chelsea, who are looking for a top-quality striker this summer, but he remains focused on continuing the rebuilding process with Inter.

“In my head, I am convinced that I am in a team that can do great things,” he said.

“We can still win and grow, start a new cycle.”
