Ronaldo is 'playing with dummies' at Man United claims Saunders

Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘playing with DUMMIES’ at Manchester United, claims Dean Saunders, as he insists Fred and Scott McTominay ‘won’t be far off’ the ‘worst midfielders’ the Portuguese superstar has EVER played alongside

  • Manchester United were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Burnley
  • Ronaldo came off the bench as a 66th minute substitution during the game
  • The Portuguese superstar has now gone five games without finding the net
  • Dean Saunders say some of United’s players ‘are not on the same wavelength’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United team-mates have been criticised following their latest setback in the Premier League.

Jay Rodriguez’ second-half equaliser cancelled out Paul Pogba’s opener, as United were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom of the league Burnley on Tuesday night.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick dropped Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench in favour of Edinson Cavani, and was brought on as a 66th minute substitution to little effect.

Former Welsh international Dean Saunders is impressed by United’s attacking choices but feels the team is being let down in midfield and defence.

He said on talkSport: ‘At one point they should’ve been 3-0 up, they were running away with it. Then the minute they get a bit of adversity they seem to go backwards and crumble.

‘If you asked Ronaldo, ‘Who’s the worst midfield players you’ve ever played with in your career?’ Fred and [Scott] McTominay won’t be far off.

‘People are starting to point the finger at Ronaldo, but he’s playing with a few dummies, some of them are not on the same wavelength as him.

‘Every time the ball was shifted around the box and they were piling the pressure on Burnley the ball was going to a really good player, to Pogba, to Rashford, to Lingard, Ronaldo, they’ve got ammunition.

‘They’ve got a bang-average back four and no engine room in the middle of the pitch, the players they’ve got in there are not up to the standard.’

The result saw United drop out of the Champions League places, as West Ham moved up to fourth after their 1-0 victory over Watford.

Saunders added United have a ‘bang-average’ back four with Harry Maguire making two costly mistakes against Burnley

Ronaldo joined the club in the summer from Juventus and there were high expectations after Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho also arrived at Old Trafforrd.

However, expectations have not been met despite Ronaldo so often being United’s saviour this season.

The Portuguese superstar though is currently struggling to find the back of the net having not scored in United’s last five outings.

Ronaldo, not for the first time this season, stormed down the tunnel after the final whistle.
