Newcastle, Wolves and West Ham have all been vying to secure him on a permanent deal.
But West Brom forward Rondon, who spent last season on loan at St James’ Park, could be China bound.
The 29-year-old performed solidly in the north east last term and bagged 12 goals.
His exploits in the Premier League haven’t gone unnoticed, though.
“West Ham had been eyeing Salomon Rondon”
According to The Sun, cash-rich clubs in the Far East are sniffing around – one of them being Dalian Yifang with Rafa Benitez now in charge and keen to reunite with the Venezuelan.
West Brom want to pocket around £20m by selling the experienced star and bigwigs in the Midlands are confident he’ll be off the books sooner rather later.
The Newcastle faithful had been keen to keep Rondon.
However, Benitez’s departure has sent the club’s summer plans into disarray.
They remain managerless and offloaded Ayoze Perez to Leicester last week.
West Ham, meanwhile, are closing in on Celta Vigo target man Maxi Gomez.
The Uruguayan has an impressive record in La Liga and is only 22 years old.
Gomez has scored 30 goals in 71 top flight games since joining the club in 2017.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol tweeted: “Big statement of intent by West Ham.
“Set to break club record by signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo for £45m.
“Valencia have dropped out. Gomez turning down Champions League football at Valencia to join West Ham.”
The Hammers have offloaded Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG after the Austrian pushed for an exit.
Arnautovic only penned a new deal at the east Londoners in January but told club chiefs he needed a new challenge.
Wolves, meanwhile, have been quiet in the transfer market.
Nuno Espirito Santo wants competition for Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota but hasn’t sourced a suitable option.
Brentford defender Ezri Konsa has also been touted as a potential target but a formal approach is yet to be made.
