And former Manchester United and England striker Rooney believes there is only one winner in this duel.
He told Sky Sports: ‘Playing with Scholesy for a long time, and seeing what he does, and I know Thierry Henry is arguably the best player in the Premier League, but I think Shearer has to go in for his goalscoring record, and for Scholes, what he did for you in the team, and how he dictated games for the team.
‘I think he is a bit underrated, certainly not with myself or Manchester United fans.’

Asked by Jamie Carragher if he’d have Scholes over Gerrard, Rooney simply said: ‘Yeah.’
Rooney was also asked if he considered Vincent Kompany the best centre back in Premier League history after putting him in his Hall of Fame.
Rooney said: ‘No, I’d probably go for Rio (Ferdinand).
‘But I think John Terry was the toughest I faced.’
