A waxwork figure of Wayne Rooney from a museum in Gdansk, Poland, has left football fans terrified on social media.

The figure, which is presumably Rooney pre-hair transplant, bears little resemblance to the Manchester United legend. And the ex-Red Devil is dressed in an Adidas tracksuit top, with some black tracksuit bottoms blonde hair and a hint of stubble.

"This is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen," one fan tweeted. A second joked: "I've scrolled past this picture like 10 times today and just assumed it was something Star Trek related."

"Still better than the court drawing," a third added in regards to the England great's court sketch at the Wagatha Christie trial. "Why does he look like the coach of a Sunday league team whose players always say 'he was on the books at Premier League club when he was younger, drink ruined him'," a fourth added.

Another fan compared him to the Wealdstone Raider. While a fifth tweeted: "To be fair this is exactly what a Polish Wayne Rooney would look like!"

Next to Rooney was a waxwork figure of Barcelona and Poland goal machine Robert Lewandowski – which wasn't much better than the English legend.

To be fair to the Polish museum, getting waxwork Wayne Rooney's right isn't as simple as it might sound. Just ask Madame Tussauds, who presented an exhibition of the England squad ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

The figure took 450 hours to complete – and Rooney promptly injured his metatarsal ahead of the tournament, throwing his involvement in doubt. Rooney did make the squad, but his time in Germany ended infamously, with a red card against Portugal, as England crashed out at the quarter-finals.
