Graeme Souness has hit out at Gerard Moreno after the Spaniard missed three chances during extra-time against Switzerland.
The quarter-final clash went into extra time after Xherdan Shaqiri got an equaliser following Denis Zakaria’s first-half own-goal.
Moreno came off the bench for Alvaro Morata in the second-half and had a number of chances against Switzerland – who were reduced to ten men – during extra-time.
Gerard Moreno missed a number of good chances for Spain during extra-time
In the first part of extra-time, Moreno missed three chances which led to Souness hitting out at the Villarreal striker during his analysis before the second-part of extra-time.
He said: They (Spain) have found another yard in extra time but Moreno for a striker, top strikers are good kickers of the ball but his three chances none of them are positive strikes.
‘This comes off his shin (first chance), that comes off his shoulder is a poor connection (second chance) and that one he needs to keep down though it’s a decent strike to be fair though it’s half of his ankle half of his boot. But if he keeps it down it goes past the goalkeeper.’

The ITV pundit then added: ‘If Spain had a clinical striker this game would be done by now and we wouldn’t be in this situation. But Switzerland are very much in it.’
Moreno had another good chance during the second part of extra-time which he tamely hit at Switzerland keeper Yann Sommer.
The game went to penalties where Moreno made no mistake from the spot, blasting his effort into the top corner.
Spain won 3-1 on penalties and will now play either Belgium or Italy in the semi-finals.
