Arsenal have already trimmed the size of their squad and wage budget this summer with several stars having already been sold or released from the club, including Petr Cech, Alex Iwobi, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck.
However, is it possible that Emery isn’t finished reducing the size of his squad as Shkodran Mustafi is expected to be shown the door soon.
Reports in Italy suggest the Gunners are preparing to offload the 27-year-old defender to Roma.
Italian publication Forza Roma claim Emery is prepared to let the Serie A side take Mustafi on a season-long loan, with the view to then make the deal permanent next summer for £23million.
Although Arsenal sold former club captain Koscielny to Bordeaux for a fee of €5m (£4.6m), the deadline day arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea means Mustafi is still down the pecking order for first-team football.
The German defender had an error-stricken season for the Gunners during their last campaign and has struggled to win over fans since he made his £35m move from Valencia in 2016.
It is understood Roma had been interested in Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren but after being told it would cost £26m to pry the Croatian away from Anfield, they have now turned their attention towards Mustafi.
Another player who could leave before the European transfer window closes on September 2 is Mohamed Elneny.
The Egypt midfielder joined from Basel for £5m back in 2016 but has struggled to cement a place in the first-team.
In four seasons the 27-year-old has only made 46 appearances for Arsenal in the league.
Elneny wasn’t included in Emery’s 25-man Premier League squad and according to reports Turkish side Galatasaray are showing an interest in the defensive midfielder.
And although FourFourTwo claim the player’s agent, Alan Namzy, has been in the capital to discuss his client’s future, no deal has yet been announced for Elneny’s departure.
Another player who could also leave the Emirates is Mesut Ozil.
The German has been linked with Major League Soccer side DC United, with the outfit interested in bringing in the midfielder to replace the outgoing Wayne Rooney, following the former England international agreeing to join Championship side Derby County.
According to the Washington Post, Ozil’s representative recently toured the DC United’s stadium along with the site of their proposed new training ground.
Ozil has yet to feature in Arsenal’s opening two games of the season, with the midfielder absent from their 1-0 in over Newcastle due to “further security incidents” following himself and Sead Kolasinac being involved in an attempted carjacking.
He also watched on from the stands as Arsenal beat Burnley 2-1 at the Emirates, after he was ruled out due to illness.
