Thorgan Hazard has backed his brother’s decision to stay at Chelsea this season after seeing Real Madrid struggle to cope with life after Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Chelsea star was strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu over the summer with the man himself intimating a desire to seal the switch. However, he ultimately remained at Stamford Bridge and has enjoyed a terrific start to the season.

In stark contrast, Real Madrid have been terrible by their own high standards and sacked manager Julen Lopetegui after only five months in charge last week.

Having lost manager Zidane and sold star player Ronaldo in the summer, Thorgan believes his brother would be better off waiting for the Spanish club to rebuild before pushing for a move.

The Borussia Monchengladbach forward told Belgian newspaper HLN: ‘Eden made the right decision to stay at Chelsea.

‘Chelsea weren’t keen on selling him and he had a strong start to the season.

‘Real are in a complex period. They sacked their manager, key players left. They have to rebuild.’

Hazard is currently contracted to Chelsea until 2020, but the west London club have been ferociously trying to tie him down to a new deal worth £300,000 a week. Torn between his love for the club and dream move to Los Blancos, there has been no significant progress in talks for a number of months.

While his failure to extend his contract has been perceived as a clear indication that he wants to leave, Thorgan says Eden will be completely focused on winning another Premier League title with the Blues.

He added: ‘I think Eden will see what happens at the end of the season. I know him. He’s not thinking about a move right now.

‘He will give everything for Chelsea. He doesn’t want a clash with his club either. If he ever leaves, he will play it correctly.’
