Norwich City are poised to appoint Frank Lampard as their new manager almost a week after sacking long-term boss Daniel Farke, according to talkSPORT. The Canaries dismissed Farke after securing their first win of the season against Brentford last weekend and are on the verge of a new era.

Lampard has been out of work since Chelsea sacked him last year, with Thomas Tuchel taking over in west London.

And after links with the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, he looks to be closing in on a Premier League return.

But he will undoubtedly want a bit of backing in the January transfer window as he bids to complete the seemingly impossible task of keeping Norwich in the top-flight.

So, Express Sport looks at three players he can use his Chelsea connections to bolster Norwich’s ranks in the new year.

Malang Sarr

Lampard signed Malang Sarr as part of his blockbuster summer transfer window in 2020 before shipping him off to Porto on loan.

The 22-year-old centre-back has stayed around at Stamford Bridge this season but has made just three appearances in all competitions.

Since they’ve conceded 26 goals in 11 league games this season, they would welcome defensive reinforcements at Norwich in January.

And Chelsea would surely be willing to let Lampard give Sarr regular minutes to bolster his development in English football.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley has made just one Premier League start this season and is firmly on the fringes of Tuchel’s squad.

Burnley are reportedly trying to lure Barkley to Turf Moor in January, but the prospect of reuniting with Lampard could tempt him to join Norwich on loan.

The Canaries don’t score near enough goals, and Barkley’s creativity could help Teemu Pukki and Josh Sargent increase their tallies.

His wage demands could be a significant stumbling block, though, and a compromise would likely have to be made.

Billy Gilmour

Chelsea could be on the verge of recalling Billy Gilmour, but Lampard will want to keep a highly-talented midfielder at Carrow Road.

Lampard handed Gilmour his Chelsea debut aged 18, giving him six appearances in all competitions in the 2019/20 season.

Now 20, Gilmour joined Norwich on what seemed like an exciting season-long loan in the summer, but Farke played him in just four Premier League games before his departure.

But his performances for Chelsea and Scotland have proven he’d undoubtedly improve the Canaries, and Lampard can save his loan by featuring him more regularly than Farke did.
