Tottenham attack tipped to match Liverpool as Premier League’s best after Gareth Bale tran

Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham will make the north Londoners a force to be reckoned with, former Spurs hitman Dimitar Berbatov believes. Real Madrid winger Bale is on course to make a sensational return to Spurs seven years after swapping London for the Spanish capital.

Bale’s agent – Jonathan Barnett – was locked in talks with Tottenham last night and has since revealed the 31-year-old is closing in on a previously unfathomable return to the Premier League.

The Wales international’s imminent return to Spurs will represent a major coup for manager Jose Mourinho, who has fended off interest from Manchester United to acquire his services.

The addition of Bale will add some serious firepower to Tottenham’s front line, which Berbatov believes is now on par with Liverpool’s prolific trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

“I don’t know too much about Jose Mourinho or how he will get the best out of Bale, but I have faith that they will work well together,” Berbatov told Betfair.

Dimitar Berbatov on Gareth Bale’s imminent return to Tottenham

“I can see from the series that Mourinho is straightforward and honest, we’ve seen that with his treatment of Dele Alli and others.

“Bale will have spoken to Mourinho before this deal is done and it will be part of the reason he wants to return.

“Bale, [Harry] Kane, [Heung-Min] Son, Dele Alli – managers would kill for this frontline.

“How Mourinho sets the team out is a different question, and that will not be easy to answer, but they are all proven goalscorers and star players, so it’s a good problem to have.

“On paper, they now have the strongest front-line in the league along with Liverpool. But Spurs fab four have never played together so we will have to see how they gel.

“The Spurs players already know each other so will just need to learn to play with Bale quickly. For Bale, playing with Kane and Son probably sounds pretty good.

“Bale is probably already texting Harry Kane and other Spurs players, chatting and looking forward to linking up.

“I just want to flick on the TV and see Gareth Bale playing football again! As fans, we want to see players like that on the pitch.”

Bale left Tottenham for Real in September 2013 for a then world-record fee of £85.3million.

During his time at the Bernabeu, the former Southampton man has scored 105 goals and provided 68 assists for Spanish champions.
