Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has requested the signing of Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen during talks with Fabio Paratici, according to reports in Italy. The Italian tactician is said to be eyeing some extra firepower in attack in the near future – despite splashing £60million on Richarlison last summer.

Spurs are keen to tie Harry Kane down to a new contract amid interest from Bayern Munich but talks are yet to reach a positive conclusion.

Lautaro Martinez is one name that Tottenham could re-explore after previously agreeing a £60million deal with Inter Milan in 2021.

Romelu Lukaku’s club-record £97.5million switch to Chelsea eventually saw Martinez’s move collapse but the Italian media are adamant could yet return for the Argentine.

However, journalist Enrico De Lellis believes Conte is actually determined to land Napoli hotshot Osimhen, who could take Tottenham’s attack to a whole new level.

The Nigerian frontman has been forced to contend with a number of injury problems in the past year but he still remains one of Serie A’s most-lethal marksman.

“In addition to his salary, he will have a budget of around £175m. There are rumours about Lautaro, but the real name that Conte told Paratici is Osimhen,” De Lellis said.

“The Napoli striker is also very popular with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, although the Germans closely follow [Benjamin] Sesko as well. Their policy is to carry out operations under £90m, consequently, Osimhen is a secondary option,” the journalist explained.

“The Nigerian is the classic Premier League footballer and it turns out to be the real goal of Tottenham. But it will be necessary to understand his will; he is demanding for the future and not only from an economic point of view.”

Osimhen has been linked with a whole host of English clubs in the past few years – including during his time at Lille, when Liverpool and Arsenal were both mooted as potential destinations.

There was reportedly interest from Manchester United this summer when Jorge Mendes looked to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Napoli but Osimhen eventually stayed put.

Roberto Calenda, the agent of Osimhen, has told Radio Kiss Kiss that transfer speculation continues to follow his client.

“We haven’t found out now that Osimhen is the subject of interest from so many teams, but things are done in three: who sells, who buys and the player,” Calenda said.

“I was immediately clear this summer because I knew there would be a lot of news coming out from those who had other interests perhaps. But I, the boy and Napoli had very clear ideas.

“Whoever talked about a departure made a mistake. It was Victor’s will to stay at Napoli and play the Champions League that he won entry to last year together with his team-mates.

“Victor wanted exactly that, to have a great year with Napoli, between the league and the Champions League. He has a long contract with the Azzurri. The market is dynamic, but our will is to continue at Napoli and continue to do well.”

Osimhen’s brother, Andrew, had previously claimed that his sibling had rejected a move to United in 2020 out of respect for his close friend Odion Ighalo, who was at the club during that timeframe.
