Tottenham fans have come up with a Dele Alli transfer theory after the midfielder’s FA Cup appearance.
The Englishman made only his fourth start of the season under Jose Mourinho in Spurs' 5-0 thumping of eighth-tier side Marine.
And he was able to grab an assist for the first goal of the game, spotting the run of Vinicius with a low cross along the penalty box, before getting subbed off for Gareth Bale on 64 minutes.
Recording just his second assist of the campaign to complement two goals – and a roasting from Mourinho in the Carabao Cup win over Stoke – it has seen Alli linked with a move away from the club.
One of the clubs most hotly-linked with the 24-year-old is PSG, with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino taking the job as manager this month.
And the Spurs faithful have come up with a theory that Mourinho started the midfielder to grab attention from the Parc des Princes.
“Jose Mourinho sticking Dele Alli in the starting squad against Marine to ‘put him in the show window’ for PSG is the real magic of the cup,” one supporter said.
Another commented: “At least Dele Alli’s getting an idea here of how the majority of Ligue 1 games will be if/ when he joins Pochettino at PSG.”
While a third suggest his game at Rossett Park was his last in the famous white jersey, with: “So that’s Dele Alli finished at Spurs. Off to join PSG.”
And a fourth added: “Looks like Dele Alli has found his level – he’ll be great at PSG.”
A fifth made an interesting observation, with: “Dele Alli not made a tackle all game. Obviously doesn’t wanna get injured before he jets off to PSG.”
With a sixth saying: “Dele Alli pulling out of every challenge. Unwilling to risk that move to PSG.”
And a final supporter simply said: “PSG salivating at Alli’s performance here.”
Alli’s performance against Marine earned high praise from Alan Shearer.
Speaking on Match of the Day Live at half time, the former forward said: “He’s been brilliant.
“He’s controlled it and pulled the strings in the middle and they’ve not been able to get near them.”
All was tipped for a transfer in November which could be valued at £30m.
