Tottenham 'nearly at agreement to sign Middlesbrough star Djed Spence'

Tottenham ‘nearly at total agreement with Middlesbrough to sign defender Djed Spence – with a medical set for the next 48 hours’ as Antonio Conte continues his Spurs summer rebuild

Tottenham are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough, according to reports.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old defender for several weeks but now the move is ‘on the cusp’ of being complete.

And as reported by the Athletic, Spence’s medical could go through as soon as the next 48 hours, if all goes to plan.

The England Under-21 full-back impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

Spence played as a right wing-back for Steve Cooper’s side, scoring two goals in 39 appearances, and put in several excellent performances which saw him named in the EFL and PFA Championship team of the season.

And now his parent club Middlesbrough are reportedly on the brink of selling him to the north London side, after talks between Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, Boro chairman Steve Gibson and Spence’s representative Scott Smith went well.

If the signing goes through, Spence – who has made 70 appearances in total for the north-east side after joining from Fulham’s academy in 2018 – would compete with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal to be the right wing-back under Antonio Conte.
