Tottenham transfer target urged to snub move as Spurs eye bid for highly-rated youngster

Tottenham transfer target Joe Rodon has been urged to snub a move to the Premier League and stay at Swansea for the rest of the season. Rodon’s Wales and Swansea team-mate Connor Roberts joked on Tuesday that the player hasn’t been good enough to play at the top level, before admitting he doesn’t want him to leave.

The transfer window may have closed on Monday night, but Spurs are still targetting one final bit of business.

Tottenham enjoyed a fruitful summer, bringing Gareth Bale back to the club while also signing Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

They are still eager to sign a centre-back, however, and will look to the Championship for a potential target.

Swansea youngster Rodon has been watched by a number of Premier League teams recently, and was believed to be the subject of interest from Manchester United.

However, it now appears Spurs are the only team in for him, with the transfer window for domestic deals between the Premier League and EFL still open until October 16th.

Swansea don’t want to sell Rodon on the cheap, and will reportedly ask for upwards of £20million to let their star man go.

And his team-mate for club and country, Roberts, joked on Tuesday that the 22-year-old isn’t good enough for a move to the Premier League, and needs to stay at Swansea to further his development.

Roberts told a press conference: “I will say, he’s been pretty poor over the last season or so.

“I’m not sure why the big clubs are looking at him, because, like I say, he’s been poor and not performing well, so I think it would be best if he did stay at Swansea and continued to try and improve.”

Roberts then spoke more honestly about Rodon, and admitted it would be a huge loss to the Swans if he ended up moving on.

He continued: “Yeah, I don’t want him to go anywhere.

“Obviously, there’s been a lot of talk about him going wherever he may go, but hopefully he can stay and he can keep on performing well like he has been.”

Tottenham tried and failed to bring in a more senior centre-back during the summer window, with Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan believed to be their prime target.

The centre-back was linked with a move away from the San Siro, and was said to be open to playing under Jose Mourinho.

Spurs were claimed to have made a bid in the region of £25m, though Inter wanted a fee more than double that.

Tottenham had some interest in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, but failed to follow that up with a formal bid.
