Transfer news LIVE: Liverpool target Ben White as Folarin Balogun considers Arsenal future

The January transfer window is open but there has been a shortage of big-money moves so far, aside from Manchester United’s Amad Diallo in a £37m move from Atalanta.

With the coronavirus causing havoc with teams’ squads and the fixture schedule, there could be a temptation to secure strength in depth for what could be a frantic close to the season. Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham have dropped more points and now look to be embroiled in a battle for a top four finish, rather than a title race, and with their defence their weakness to date, Real Madrid defender Eder Militao – who is also wanted by AC Milan, inter and Roma – could be of interest. While Stuttgart’s Argentine forward Nicolas Gonzalez is another target, with Premier League side Leeds and La Liga outfit Valencia joining the pursuit of the former Argentinos Juniors star. Interestingly, Valencia are also thought to be keen on taking Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks on loan.

Elsewhere in north London, Arsenal have been priced out of a deal for Norwich’s Emi Buendia and so could move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, though a summer switch appears more likely in this case, with the Seagulls close to securing Moises Caicedo from Independiente del Valle but expected to loan the 19-year-old to either Manchester United or Chelsea. Those powerhouses are also in a race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, but Bayern Munich have joined that race.

Arsenal sensation Folarin Balogun has reportedly agreed to join RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

The Gunners youngster is out of contract in the summer and he will be able to leave on a free transfer come June.

According to Football Insider, an Arsenal source has confirmed a pre-contract deal was in place for the 19-year-old.

Balogun is yet to put pen to paper on the offer from the German giants but could become the latest English youngster to swap the Premier League for the Bundesliga.

He has impressed when given his chance by Arteta this season – in his five senior Arsenal appearances, he has two goals, both coming in Europa League wins.

A new report claims Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman thinks Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum will be at the Camp Nou next season.

The Netherlands international is out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season and is reportedly holding out on a significant page increase if he is to pen a new deal.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, claims Koeman is ‘confident that Eric Garcia, Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay can arrive for free in the summer market’.

Wijnaldum was heavily linked with Barcelona in the summer and is yet to commit his future to Liverpool despite ongoing contract negotiations.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein says that Mesut Ozil is prepared to ‘leave money on the table’ to ensure a move away from the Emirates in January.

Ozil’s £350,000-per-week contract runs out at the end of the season but the 32-year-old is willing to cut short the deal if a move can be secured for him to leave.

The midfielder has been linked with possible moves to Fenerbahce and the Turkish Super Lig  as well as a potential transfer to Major League Soccer in the US.

However, if a transfer for Ozil fails to materialise he is prepared to see out his contract with the Gunners which should net him an extra £7million by the end of the season.

Valencia are showing interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to the Daily Mail.

Javi Gracia’s side were rebuffed in their enquiries to take Tottenham’s Harry Winks on loan for the rest of the season so they’ve changed tact.

Torreira joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan in October, but is struggling for regular game time and Arsenal are said to be keen to relocate the midfielder this month.

Wolves are looking to sign a striker to replace the injured Raul Jimenenz and reports earlier in the window week suggested they had looked at Divock Origi and Olivier Giroud but were priced out due to a lack of finances.

One player reportedly on their radar and within budget is Montpellier striker Andy Delort.

According to Le Buteur (via Sport Witness), Wolves have made a serious offer for the striker and want to sign him at ‘any price but they face competition for his signature from Premier League rivals Newcastle.

The 29-year-old has netted eight goals and made six assists for Montpellier this season, more than anyone at Molineux.

According to Sky Sports Jesse Lingard could be on his way out of Old Trafford after his representatives have held initial discussions with Nice over a loan move, with an official approach expected in the next week.

Manchester United have yet to decide whether to allow Lingard to leave in this transfer window. His current contract runs until the summer of 2022.

The 27-year-old has featured three times for Man Utd this season in the FA Cup win over Watford on Saturday, the EFL cup third-round win over Luton and in the fourth-round victory over Brighton.

Lingard has not played Premier League football for over a year, so a loan move would be in his best interests.

Barcelona are keen to sign Manchester City defender Eric Garcia by the end of the month, according to the Daily Mail.

The LaLiga giants have been scouting the 20-year-old for some time and had a Deadline Day bid for him turned down by Man City in the summer.

Garcia remains one of Barcelona’s top targets in January alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay, but he could have to wait until his current deal runs out in the summer to make the move to the Camp Nou on a free transfer.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says there are no plans to offload centre-back Shkodran Mustafi after the Gunners have sent William Saliba out on loan and Sokratis Papastathopoulos look set to leave within a few days. Arteta said:

His future right now is here. I’m trying to help. We have Papa that probably is going to leave the club in this window. William that has already gone on loan, so we don’t have that many right now.

“Gabriel’s been out now for a period, David (Luiz) has been injured. So the situation is completely different to before.”

Liverpool are keen on Brighton’s Ben White, according to the Echo.

The report claims the Reds were keen last summer after a successful loan spell at Leeds.

While Brighton are embroiled in a relegation battle, despite injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, the interest is likely to be firmed up next summer, rather than this month.
