We’re less than two weeks from the start of the 2022-23 Premier League season and top-flight clubs are still going all out to sign transfer targets. Manchester United and Chelsea are among the busier teams in the market with the Frenkie de Jong and Jules Kounde sagas raging on.
United have an agreement in place with Barcelona for De Jong but the Catalan club’s financial problems continue to delay a deal. While Chelsea look as though they may miss out on Sevilla defender Kounde, who Barca are keen to bring in despite their cash flow issues.
Elsewhere, Manchester City want Brighton’s Marc Cucurella but the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool are more focused on outgoings. Clubs like West Ham, Newcastle and Everton continue to make additions though in what promises to be a hectic few weeks before the new campaign gets underway.

Cristiano Ronaldo talks
Cristiano Ronaldo will hold showdown talks with Manchester United this week after flying back to England on Monday night.
Erik ten Hag will sit down with the wantaway Portugal captain in the next few days, claims Fabrizio Romano via The Guardian, with the Dutchman eager to get the striker involved in his pre-season preparations as quickly as possible.
He has not yet trained under the new United manager having been allowed to remain in Portugal due to a family issue.
Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford but Chelsea and Bayern Munich have distanced themselves from a move. Napoli and Atletico Madrid are two other clubs linked with the 37-year-old but a deal would not be easy for either team.
Arsenal’s Saliba worry
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the agent of Arsenal defender William Saliba held a meeting with the president of Marseille last night.
The Gunners are excited about the Frenchman’s potential but it has been suggested he could leave the Emirates before the new campaign if he is not promised a starting role.
And Saliba’s representative speaking to Marseille, where he spent last season on loan, could worry some supporters.
However, manager Mikel Arteta said a few days ago: “We are really happy to have him. You can see the way he’s adapted, the way he’s matured, and he’s playing well, and we are delighted to have him.”
Man Utd’s De Jong belief
Manchester United strongly believe Frenkie de Jong is willing to reunite with Erik ten Hag and make the move to Old Trafford, say Goal.
That’s despite the Dutch midfielder’s preference being to remain with current club Barca. The La Liga giants want to move De Jong on to raise cash.
United remain confident that the Dutchman will join them once he sorts out a financial wrangle with Barca which relates to deferred wages still owed to him.
Barca are thought to owe the player around £14million and he will not leave the Nou Camp until he is paid. A £71million agreement is in place between the two clubs over a transfer.
