Traore re-signs with Melbourne Victory

Ivory Coast defender Adama Traore will remain in navy blue for the next A-League season having re-signed a one-year deal with Melbourne Victory for the 2020/21 campaign.

Traore is in his second spell with Victory, having won the Victory Medal as the club's best player in the 2013/14 season.

He left immediately after, spending five seasons in Portugal, Switzerland and Turkey before returning to Melbourne in 2019.

The 30-year-old is under no illusions about the scale of the challenge Victory faces after their worst ever season.

"We know we have a lot of hard work to get back to playing the football our members and fans expect, but I'm looking forward to returning for pre-season training," he said.

Head coach Grant Brebner said that Traore was "the ultimate professional and a fierce competitor" but crucially, he added: "he understands the Victory culture, our standards, our expectations and the way we want to play.

"He is such an important member of squad because he leads by example and cares for his teammates on and off the pitch.

"Not only is Adama a reliable defender, he has an incredible work rate and provides us with the ability to quickly transition from defence to attack."
