Kieran Trippier's mind games worked to perfection for Newcastle United as they scored a stoppage-time penalty against Nottingham Forest.
It was Alexander Isak who stepped up to bag his second of the game at the death and secure a 2-1 victory for Eddie Howe's side at the City Ground on Friday (March 17) night after he'd cancelled out Emmanuel Dennis' opener. But Trippier played a crucial role before he took it.
The experienced England international kept hold of the ball while Forest's players tried to delay the attempt and put off who they thought would be the taker, before passing it to Isak at the final moment.

His clever ploy was picked up on by many of the Toon Army with one hailing: "World class s***housery by Trippier pretending to take penalty so he got all the mind games then gave ball to Alex. Absolute genius never seen that before!!!"
A second echoed: "Loving the s***housery of Trippier standing there taking the comments off Forest players for pen then handing the ball to Isak."

"Absolute master stroke from Trippier standing with the ball to stop Isak getting involved in the mind games," similarly commented a third.
A fourth tweeted: "Kieran Trippier holding the ball and smiling while Forest players tried to psyche him out before penalty – and then handing it to a totally chilled Isak to send keeper the wrong way, a classic of the genre."
"The face of Trippier knowing he's absolutely s***housing before that penalty. Love that. Our captain," said a fifth, while a sixth added: "Glorious. Master of the dark arts."
Explaining the tactic to Sky Sports post-match, Isak said: "Sometimes it might fool the opposition but the goalie, Keylor [Navas], he kind of knew I was going to take it so he came straight to me and tried to get in my head. So yeah, we did our best."
