Varane leaving for Saudi and £30m failure would be nightmare end to Man Utd’s…
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will be hoping for a strong end to the transfer window with a few fringe players being sold to help raise the necessary funds to buy another central midfielder. But things could easily go in the other direction. Express Sport theorises how the final week of the transfer window could turn into a nightmare for United.
Varane leaves for Saudi
Noise coming out of Varane’s camp is that he has no desire to leave Old Trafford for Saudi Arabia and that may well stay true. But football players have long gone back on their words at the last minute after being given a life-changing offer.
Varane, 30, has two years remaining on his United contract and is one of the club’s top earners on wages said to be around £340,000-a-week. However, Saudi Arabia have proven they’re willing to break the bank for top targets with Al-Ittihad handing out mega-money contracts this summer.
Losing Varane so late in the window would come as a huge blow to Ten Hag with little time to bring in a replacement.
£30m failure
Sofyan Amrabat seems to have been linked with a move to United all summer long and no progress has been made recently. Fiorentina have set their asking price, but United don’t appear to have the necessary funds available to make a deal happen.
The Italian side are reportedly asking for just £30million, which presents a bargain in today’s market for central midfielders. United are in desperate need of bringing in another midfielder capable of playing alongside Casemiro to provide the Brazilian with more cover.
Fred has left the club while Scott McTominay has been made available, leaving just Christian Eriksen as a senior option to play in midfield as well as summer signing Mason Mount. Failing to bring in another midfielder with Amrabat seemingly the top target would be a huge disappointment for Ten Hag.

No more outgoings
It appears to be the main hold up for any more activity at Old Trafford but United need to find a way to offload more of their fringe players. Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, McTominay, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek are still at the club with no progress being made on them leaving.
Maguire refused to leave after United struck an agreement with West Ham earlier this month while clubs are being put off wage demands for the others. Ten Hag has made it clear that he wants them all moved on as he continues to try and build his own team at Old Trafford.
But failing to offload them is stopping the United boss from making any late signings in the window.
