West Ham enter talks with Everton for left-back Lucas Digne

West Ham enter talks with Everton for left-back Lucas Digne but his £100k-a-week salary could become a stumbling block… with Chelsea and Newcastle also keen on the £30m-rated star

  • West Ham have entered race to sign Everton left-back Lucas Digne this month
  • But their hopes could be scuppered by the player’s £100k-per-month salary
  • Chelsea are still monitoring developments on the player, as are Newcastle

West Ham are continuing discussions over a move for Everton’s Lucas Digne but the Frenchman’s £100,000 a week wages could prove an issue.

Chelsea continue to monitor developments for the £30m-rated left-back too. Newcastle have also enquired but are considering Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico as a possible alternative.

It was the Blues who looked most likely to seal a deal for Digne – with coach Thomas Tuchel down to one left-back in Marcus Alonso after Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.

West Ham have joined the race to sign Everton left-back Lucas Digne in the January window

David Moyes is looking for cover at left-back after losing Aaron Cresswell to injury

Chelsea have also been looking at Ajax’s Nico Tagliafico and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as alternatives.

Digne has fallen out of favour with Everton boss Rafa Benitez, who has opted to play right-back Seamus Coleman on the left and even centre-back Ben Godfrey.

Reports have claimed that the pair fell our over a disagreement about Benitez’s coaching methods.

But Chelsea remain keen on signing Digne with Ben Chilwell out for the season with ACL blow

The last game Digne played in was the 4-1 loss to rivals Liverpool on December 1, with Benitez since snapping up Dynamo Kiev left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Digne could now be a real target for West Ham, who – like Chelsea – are struggling with an injury situation after losing left-back Aaron Cresswell.

David Moyes is also without centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna and the arrival of Digne would be a huge boost with Arthur Masuaku currently the only senior left back, and Cresswell’s return date unknown.
