West Ham are eyeing up a shock loan swoop for Chelsea outcast Antonio Rudiger.
Rudiger, 27, has been left out in the cold by Frank Lampard so far this season, failing to earn a place in his squad for the third game in a row away at West Brom on Saturday.
It is believed Lampard wants to sell the Germany centre-back this summer, which could help raise funds for their pursuit of Hammers youngster Declan Rice.
Paris St-Germain are reportedly interested in signing him, but only on a season-long loan deal which includes an option-to-buy clause.
And according to The Sun, West Ham are also keen to secure a loan deal for Rudiger before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Hammers will pay good money to sign him on loan, with David Moyes desperate to bolster his backline at the London Stadium.
They have already come up short with similar offers for Arsenal’s Rob Holding and Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, who is in talks over a permanent switch to Roma.
Chelsea would prefer to offload Rudiger outright this summer and balance the books as they prepare to make a late push for Rice – Lampard’s priority transfer target.
Nevertheless, if the west London club fail to receive an offer then Moyes could be in with a chance of striking a loan agreement.
West Ham are understood to also be monitoring French centre-half Mohamed Simakan, 20, who is valued at £20million by Strasbourg.
Should Rudiger become available on loan, however, that could prove the more enticing financial option in the current climate.
When asked about potential moves for Rudiger and Jorginho this summer, Lampard said: “I don’t expect anything in the window, they are our players.
